Curriculum

We offer wide subject pathways with over 45 subject choices

A Diverse Curriculum

With 750 students and 60 teachers, we are able to provide a rich choice of subjects - 45 in total - including five languages, six technology subjects, nine options in the arts, eight social sciences, five mathematics pathways, four physical education options including outdoor education and health, and four senior science subjects.

We offer English, English Literacy, English for Second Language learners, as well as curriculum reading and literacy support. All subjects are supported by rich and powerful co-curricular experiences outside the classroom. We have 15 students in our Gateway programme and eight in the Otago Secondary Tertiary College pathway. Year 9 students experience 10 subjects of their choosing in total.

All courses have options that continue on to University Entrance level. This is important, not because students must go on to university, but because it gives the choice throughout their life to do so. We are strong in our belief that five years at high school is important and support all programmes with a robust focus on career education.

Creative and critical thinking skills are intentionally taught in every classroom, encouraging students to analyse, evaluate, and synthesise information. Our curriculum fosters self-confidence, diverse skills, social action, and excellence. With outstanding NCEA results and numerous scholarships, our students are well-prepared for tertiary study.
